Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) provides essential training for professionals looking to train groups and individuals as well as the ability to develop assessment tools. It is now an obligatory requirement to have TAE40110 qualification to train and assess people to nationally recognised qualifications within Australian workplaces and training organisations. Graduates from the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment course can look forward to rewarding careers as enterprise trainers, enterprise assessors, registers training organisation (RTO) assessors, training needs analysts and vocational education teachers.

Attaining TAE40110 qualification depends on the completion of ten units of learning including designing and developing learning programs; mentoring at work; planning assessment activities; assessing competence; participating in assessment validation; plan, organise and deliver group-based learning; plan and facilitate learning in the workplace; use training packages and courses to meet client needs; making a presentation and provide work skill instruction.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is applicable to the units of the Cert IV Training and Assessment certificate course subject to the relevant submission of evidence in a portfolio.

Mentor in the workplace

Establish and develop a professional mentoring relationship with a learner to include a mentoring framework and evaluation process. Specifically applies to apprentices, trainees and work placement.


Plan assessment activities and processes (TAEASS401A)


Plan and organise the assessment process including recognition of prior learning (RPL) in a competency-based system and in accordance with benchmarks for assessment.

Assess competence
(TAEASS402A)


Interpret assessment plan in accordance with organisational, legal and ethical requirements and with regard to relevant benchmarks. Document and review in line with policies and procedures.

Participate in Assessment Validation (TAEASS403A)


Actively participate in assessment validation in the context of policies, procedures and benchmarks and identify and implement improvements to assessment procedures.

Implement the operational plan by monitoring and adjusting performance, producing short term plans for the department/section, planning and acquiring resources and providing reports on performance as needed.

Read and interpret learning program documentation and develop session plans to deliver training for individuals within a group in accordance with relevant legal and ethical requirements.

Identify training and assessment needs of clients and select relevant training module to meet those needs relevant to the industry as well as organisational and individual competency development.

Plan, organise and facilitate learning in the workplace (TAEDEL402A)


Develop and document individual learning plans in line with overall objectives and in accordance with contractual, OHS requirements and with respect to legal and ethical requirements.


Provide work skill instruction (TAEDEL301A)


Conduct individual and group instruction and demonstrate work skills using existing learning resources in a measurable way and in a safe, comfortable environment.




Workplace Assessment & Training Investment

Government funding is not presently available for the online Cert 4 Workplace Training & Assessment course.

1.  Upfront payment of the entire course fees. 
This attracts a 5% discount, reducing the total upfront fee to $3325.
2.  An upfront enrolment fee of $500, and 10 monthly installments of $300. 
Total course fee is $3500.
